LORDS OF ORDER
HOMEWORLD:
Home world is usually referred to as the
Vorlon Home world. Numerous colonies and allies lie within Vorlon
space. Vorlon space is off limits, practically all ships that
enter the Vorlon Empire never return.
BIOLOGY
Largely unknown. Vorlons have DNA, blood with a "blue cell
count" and some sort of crystalline structure, breathing an
atmosphere containing methane, sulpher and carbon dioxide, which
is "pretty think stuff" according to Dr. Benjamin Kyle.
They are capable of flight and very rapid movement when in their
natural environment, although on Babylon 5 their representative,
Kosh Naranek (shown), is encased in a heavily armored encounter
suit preventing them from being recognized, but not apparently
from being poisoned by florazyne. They speak in musical tones,
which are translated by the flashing device on their encounter
suits.
CULTURE:
Unknown. Vorlons are very secretive, controlling vast areas of
space located around eight days in hyperspace from Babylon 5, but
permitting very little contact, to the extent that the first
three Earth Alliance exploration vessels into Vorlon space all
met with "accidents", and when questioned about this
the Vorlon's merely apologized and suggested "no more
expeditions", presumably a similar stance was taken with the
numerous Centauri expeditions, which met a similar fate. It is
known however that art and science are closely allied and that
their writing resembles a combination of punctuation marks.
GOVERNMENT:
Their political organization is known as the Vorlon Empire, which
is governed by the Vorlon High Command.
HISTORY:
The Vorlons are one of the oldest races
in the galaxy, collectively known as the First Ones, and are the
last of the older races who have not yet passed beyond the veil.
Over millions of years they have established their Empire across
a vast area of space, or perhaps just occupied what was left
vacant by the departure of the other First Ones, while at the
same time battling with the Shadows, their last battle being
fought around a millennia ago when together with the Minbari and
a few other races drove the Shadows back to their homeworld,
Z'ha'dum.
PSI:
Vorlons appear to have a distrust of
telepaths, although they allegedly have them, and accoring to
Justin were infact responsible for the creation of telepaths on a
hundred worlds for use as cannon fodder in their struggles
against the Shadows, presumably having discovered the weakness in
the control mechanism of the Shadows' ships. Vorlons appear to
have other powers as well, such as being able to detect when they
are being scanned telepathically. Because being seen "each
according to their kind" is tiring, it may be that the
angelic form is a psionic projection and not their true form.
RELIGION:
Arguably they are religion, having
nurtured many of the younger races in the galaxy and conditioning
those races to perceive Vorlons as a mythological being from
their religious history. To Drazi they are seen as Droshalla, to
the Minbari they are Valeria and are seen as G'Lan by the Narn.
They common factor that all races have is that they are perceived
as winged beings of light with a diaphanous tail instead of legs,
with the exception of the Centauri, or maybe just their
ambassador, for Londo Mollari could not see anything.
TECHNOLOGY:
The Vorlons possess some suitably
advanced and very sophisticated technology closely linked with
their arts most, if not all of which, is organic in nature. They
use tight beam rather than broadband communications, maintaining
an aura of fear and mystery they seem keen to promote. Their
technology, as could be expected is far in advance of the other
races, only the Shadows and Walkers of Sigma 957 demonstrating
comparable levels of expertise, a Vorlon Cruiser can survive an
impact from the beam weapon of a Shadow Warship with minor
damage, but both the other races demonstrate more expertise with
hyperspace transistions.
Planet Killer
The Vorlon Planetkiller is an
incredibly large and powerful capital ship, it dwarfs even the
Vorlon Mothership Compared to other ships, its length appears to
be over 20 km. The Planetkiller is the ultimate display of Vorlon
power, it has the capability of destroying an entire Earth-sized
planet. It is unknown how this weapon works, since there has been
no survivors to tell their tale.
Mother Ship
The Vorlon Mothership
is a very large and powerful spacecraft. It is around 1.7 km
long, yet surprisingly maneuverable. These ships are organic in
nature, and seem to be sentient, but there is also a crew of
Vorlons on board. It has only one known weapon, a beam that is
emitted from an energy field that is generated between the 4
"arms". Obviously the ship can open up a jump-point.
The Mothership also has a defensive system that is capable of
absorbing energy from beam weapons, thereby reducing damage. The
inner workings and effectiveness of this system is unknown. The
Vorlons have many ships of this type, but they are rarely seen,
since the Vorlons are so reclusive.
Cruiser
The Vorlon Cruiser looks very similar
to the Transport, but it is quite a bit larger. It is also
equipped with a very powerful Vorlon beam weapon. Like the
Transport, the Cruiser is colored with a yellow or orange/red
color scheme. Nothing more is known about these Vorlon ships.
Fighter
The Vorlon Fighter is the most
powerful fighter known. It is also amazingly agile, able to
out-maneuver any other fighter. This ship has a deadly Vorlon
beam, also emitted between the four "arms". It is also
a very large craft for being a fighter, around 50 meters long.
Transport
The Vorlon Transport is about twice
as long as the Fighter, around 100 meters, and it has a similar
weapon. These ships seem to be used mostly as transportation for
Vorlon ambassadors, but they are also used effectively in combat.
Like all Vorlon ships, the Transport is based upon organic
technology. These ships also seem to be sentient in some way.
Like the Cruiser, the Transport is colored with a yellow or
orange/red color scheme.
